A MILLIONAIRE businessman is giving his home town football club £2million for a new stand - as he wants to watch games from the same angle as he did when he was a child.

Falkirk FC fan Sandy Alexander said that, from the age of five, he watched the Bairns among the diehards in the 'Railway End' behind the right hand goal at Brockville Park.

After playing at the stadium for more than 125 years, the SPL, side moved to a new ground in 2004. But they have so far built only two stands and have yet to build one behind the right hand goal.

Alexander, who made his fortune from the Schuh footwear company he founded in the 1980s, spends match days in the Main Stand instead.

The 58-year-old decided to dip in to his own pocket to pay for a new 2,000-seat South Stand and he expects to watch matches from there by the end of the year. He said: 'The benefits of a third stand will be tremendous. I know what it means to the fans.

'The old Railway End was where my dad and I stood for years.

"I would love to see the South Stand take its place."

Falkirk FC managing director George Craig said: 'The latest gesture surpasses all that he has done for us before:'
