 School News

We regret to announce the death of an FP.—Gerry McEneny (school 56-67). Condolences are offered to his family. Andrew Lindsay wrote this appreciation:-

Gerry McEneny passed away yesterday. I have forwarded his wife, Freda's email for more information. Gerry was only 63 and was my best friend at school although we didn't see much of each other in the intervening years. Gerry left Scotus in 1967 and spent one year at Edinburgh College of Art but then moved to Aberdeen Art College where he studied graphic design.

After graduating he worked for the NHS in their in-house design studio where he became studio manager and spent his entire career. He had to reduce the number of days he worked late last year because of illness and finally retired earlier this year. I didn't realise how ill Gerry had become even though he and I had emailed each other as recently as a month ago.

Gerry met Freda when he was at art college and they were married for thirty something years, they have two daughters who Gerry was extremely proud off. I have some recent pics of Gerry in my hard drive in my office if you want me to email them to you let me know.

Gerry was a massive Hibs fan and I remember him proudly showing me pictures of himself at the Nou Camp where Hibs (unbelievably) played in the fifties.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings,

Change of e-mail address:- Pete Scholfield.

We are now well advanced through this year’s Edinburgh Festival, and again some of our F.P.s and friends are still performing after many years, Ricky Demarco, Philip Contini and Mike Maran to name a few. We hope that audiences have flocked to your performances, and that they have been very kind.

The lunch to mark the 60th anniversary of the opening of the school takes place on Friday 13th September at The Royal Scots Club, Abercromby Place, at 12.30pm for 1.00pm. There are still a few places available. Please contact Lindsay Wilson if you are interested.

We recently spotted a photograph, in the Edinburgh Evening News, of Aidan Bremner, entertaining at the Playfair Steps in Edinburgh. He was known as Bus Stop Willie. This photo has been added to the gallery on the school website.

Congratulations to Ricky Demarco, who received his European Parliament’s Citizen’s prize on 19th August.
